To live with mental illness is the major challenge of one’s life. It is not at all an easy thing to bear and to live your entire life with.

CASE STUDY

There was one of our patients whose name we cannot reveal because of confidentiality. He was diagnosed with major depressive disorder when he was 12. Soon after that, he started suffering from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) when he was 18. Then because of both these things, he experienced himself in the menace of an extreme stage of depression.

These problems keep on getting worsened as it induces intense fear and obsessive showering many times a day. Because of this, he started to encounter the feeling of uncertainty, low self-esteem and helplessness.

Finally, he approached us!

For a good 3 to 4 years, he visited many psychiatrists and started to take the treatment from scratch, but of no use. He took many medications which were antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs. Ultimately someone guided him to visit Manas Hospital. It is the hospital that provides the best psychiatric help.

We found out

In the initial consultation, we got to know that the patient had gone through a lot of the treatments. From medications to therapies, he has relied on everything. But none of that made him rehabilitated from the particular condition.

We felt the need for TMS

When we found out that none of the treatment options was providing relief to the patient, we decided to switch to the TMS which stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. I know many among our readers do not know about this approach. This is a non-invasive way to treat the structural components of the brain. These components are stimulated in such a way that the depression and OCD types problems can thoroughly be treated.

If it worked?

When we commenced the treatment on the patient, we observed that it was going to be extremely challenging as the patient was scaling on the top levels of the severity of both disorders. No sooner, some weeks passed than the patient started experiencing some change in way of his thinking and thus the quality of his life seemed to be improving. He was so glad about the impact that he just started crying in front of us.

What benefits did he encounter to take up the TMS?

He encountered the following benefits:

  • First of all, the session did not last for more than 2 minutes. This means you need not take a full day off from your work.
  • This treatment option does not cause the patient to suffer from pain because of its less invasive nature.
  • Each session of the complete procedure is outpatient which means you do not need to stay in the hospital for the observations.

Bottom Line

So being diagnosed with mental illness disorders is not something which you are suffering alone. About 67% of the world’s population is bothered with mental problems of different intensities. But choosing the right doctor here matters a lot.
